superhero
biography
Can we do it? Yes we can! Superhero have been
living this out for a lot longer than its been
Barack Obama's catch phrase!
Superhero have been there, done it and bought
the T-Shirt....well, sold the T-Shirt!
It started when they made the crazy decision to
give up the day jobs. The "stepping out of
the boat" moment,
which set the tone for things to come.
"It will never last" - "It's impossible" - "You
can't do this in Europe".....well, that was
8 years, 4 albums, 1000+ gigs, 250,000 people,
19 countries and 5000 responses to the gospel later!!
Don't tell these guys it can't be done....unless
you want it done!
When the guys from Delirious announced that they
were going to search for and sign a UK band, Superhero
were not even considered by the media and the 'industry
insiders' as even in the frame for consideration.
Well, no one told Superhero about the rules, so
they spent their last £400 making a demo
of 4 new songs, sent it off and 6 months later
were discussing terms with Fierce, getting the
tour of the Delirious HQ and discussing details
for their debut album release!
No one gets the hugely sought after London based
producer Alan Branch to work with a Christian band,
after all, he's the best we know! He's worked with
U2, Primal Scream, Sinead O'Connor, Blur..etc etc.
Well, guess what? They sent him a demo and he phoned
the next day
"When do we start" was his response.
And what about America? Everyone wants to go there,
everyone wants to tour there but how can we? Without
a US label, without a manager, without a booking
agent, with no records released there....It can't
be done! Solution, get on a plane in Glasgow, get
off in Memphis and see what happens! 80 gigs, 29
states visited a 6 week tour with Grammy nominated
band DecembeRadio and Superhero find themselves
about to release their first album into the US
market, taking calls every week from people who
want to sign them to this and sign them to that.
No thanks!
So what is it that drives them on, against the
odds. If you ask them they will always give you
the same answer:
"We believe this is what God wants us to
do, and as long as we feel this way, and for as
long as people continue to hear and respond to
the Gospel through what we do, we will keep moving
forward....oh! and we love the challenge, the way
it stretches our faith and keeps us humble, because
the way we do things, it can only ever be said
that God did it for us".
"All the glory to him, he is our constant"
